Service Description

A prenatal visit with your doula is an opportunity to connect, prepare, and feel supported as you approach the birth of your baby. It’s a time to discuss your preferences, learn new techniques, and ask any questions you may have. Each visit is tailored to your unique needs, so it can look a little different for each client, but here’s what a typical session might include: 1. Establishing Your Birth Preferences Pain management preferences (medication vs. natural methods) Desired birth environment (lighting, music, atmosphere) Support roles (who you want in the room and how your doula will assist) Any specific practices you’re interested in, like water birth or hypnobirthing 2. Education & Preparation Your doula will provide education on topics that will help you feel empowered and prepared for birth. Breathing techniques to manage labor pains and stress Comfort measures like massage, positioning, and acupressure points Labor stages: What to expect at each stage, signs of early labor, and when to call your healthcare provider or doula. Breastfeeding and newborn care: Basic tips for the first few days with your baby Emotional support: Discussing any fears or concerns you may have and offering reassurance 3. Physical Support & Wellness Your doula will also guide you through physical exercises to help you stay comfortable and prepared. This might include: Gentle stretches to relieve tension or back pain Tips for improving fetal positioning (like using a birthing ball) Recommending techniques for reducing common pregnancy discomforts (such as swelling or hip pain) Helping you tune into your body and practice relaxation techniques for labor 4. Partner Involvement If your birth partner is present, your doula will involve them in the conversation, teaching them ways they can best support you during labor. This can include: Hands-on support strategies (massage, providing water, etc.) Communication tips: how to advocate for your needs together Encouragement and guidance on how to stay calm and supportive 5. Answering Questions & Addressing Concerns Pregnancy is a time filled with a lot of questions, and your doula is there to offer answers and resources. The prenatal visit is also about building a strong relationship. Your doula will get to know you on a personal level, so when labor begins, you feel comfortable and relaxed in their presence.
